Course Name: Acting II: Advanced Acting

Grade Level: Form VI
Teacher: Kristen Tripp Kelley
 
Course Objectives:
This course will work to develop the specific tools needed for theatrical performance.  Using an ensemble approach, students will discover that voice, body, and mind must work together to tell a story and to bring a character to life.  Students will workshop and perform scenes using the Stanislavski and Meisner techniques, and in the second half of the year, will perform in a play for the Nichols community. The class will attend a number of productions at local theatres throughout the year.
 
Objectives For Students:
a.       To increase awareness of physical, vocal, and psychological self.
b.      To learn various approaches to developing a character.
c.       To learn various approaches to script analysis.
d.      To learn various acting styles.
e.       To work effectively within an ensemble.
f.        To increase creativity and improvisational skills.
g.       To explore acting for film in a number of different genres.
 
Topics Covered in Course:
Ensemble, Vocal and Physical Awareness, Imagination/Improvisation, Stanislavski, Approach to scene work and character, Meisner Technique.
 
Methods of Assessment:
Students will keep a daily journal marking their progress in class as well as their observations of the outside world; these will be evaluated regularly (20%).  Students will produce various scenes and film projects (40%).  Participation and commitment to classwork (20%), and overall personal growth in performance (20%) will also effect grading.
 
Materials: one notebook for note taking, one notebook to be used as a journal, and a folder to store hand-outs.
