Performance Technique

Overview:
This class is designed for students with or without experience on stage. Through lecture, discussion, basic games and exercises, we will explore how body, voice, and mind must work together for successful performance in any arena. Students will develop their imaginations, organizational skills, and sense of self by engaging in both public speaking and theatrical exploration. In addition to individual growth, there will be an emphasis on building a relationship to the ensemble.
Objectives:
A. To improve social skills of cooperation, trust, communication, organization, and discipline.
B. To develop public speaking skills.
C. To increase self-awareness and self-confidence.
D. To improve textual analysis and research skils.
Standards:
Students must participate in all classroom activities and assignments. Students must strive to keep an open mind to all exercises, trusting that the unknown and uncomfortable have the power to teach us about ourselves as human beings and performers. Students must be respectful of classmates, and refrain from negatively judging the work of others.
Assignments:
Daily and weekly speaking assignments requiring outside preparation and occasional research.
Method of Evaluation:
Commitment to and completion of all assignments (50%), Daily Participation and Attitude (30%), Individual Growth (20%).
Materials:
Spiral for note-taking, folder for hand-outs.
