Course Descriptions
Course Name: Acting I
Grade Level: Forms V&VI
Teacher: Kristen Tripp Kelley
 
Objectives: This yearlong course will enable students to develop effective communication skills as they begin to build a strong acting technique.  
 
Objectives for the Students: To build self-confidence and self-awareness. To work within an ensemble framework, improving social skills of trust, discipline, and cooperation. To improve physical, vocal, and emotional awareness.  To learn an approach to the performance of  monologues and scenes.
 
Topics Covered in Course: Physical, Vocal, and Emotional Awareness, Improvisation, Approach to Monologue, Stanislavski, Text Analysis/Approach to Scenework, Character Analysis, Blocking, Introduction to Theatre Terms, Performance and Rehearsal.  Students will also collaborate with the Digital/Video class to create short films for the Spring Acting and Film Festival.
 
Methods of Assessment: Students will be assessed according to their level of commitment to and participation in class work (30%), and by the completion and commitment to performance assignments (40%). Also, students will keep journals recording their progress in class as well as observations of the outside world that will be checked regularly by the instructor (20%).  Finally, grading will be effected by individual growth in performance work and class exercises (10%).
